Novatel MiFi is first "Intelligent Mobile Hotspot"

Novatel's official press release about their "Intelligent Mobile Hotspot" can be found on our site at http://www.EVDOinfo.com/MiFi

Novatel has told us they do not see the MiFi as "just a portable cellular router", providing functionality similar to what a Cradlepoint PHS300 with an attached USB modem would provide.

How so? they say that their MiFi "has an onboard Linux processor capable of hosting software applications and additional content storage capabilities via MicroSD"

The description has us envisioning the functionality of iPhone apps, but without the phone and/or its useful touchscreen LCD interface. Of course, since an iPhone cannot (yet) tether to a computer or turn itself into a WiFi router, the MiFi has its advantages.

The MiFi is reported (on other sites) to be "under $200" at launch and should be available with embedded EVDO (probably for Sprint and/or Verizon) or HSDPA module for AT&T.

We've got ourselves on the list for a review unit and expect one in January, or sooner.
