Verizon MiFi 2200 to ship this month
Get ready soccer moms... the coolest gadget you'll have in your bag will soon launch on Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband network - the MiFi 2200 "Intelligent Mobile Hotspot".
We're pretty sure this new toy is going to get a LOT of press, resulting in a lot of sales -- but until we get our hands on a production unit and run a gamut of tests on it, we don't understand the claim of "intelligence".
We played with a near-production unit at CTIA and were impressed by it, but we don't see how its any more 'intelligent' than the popular Cradlepoint routers we currently promote.
Our review will happen as soon as we get a unit for testing. For now, check out the official Verizon MiFi 2200 press release
Its worth noting that the press release lists two data plans that are not currently offered -- a $39.99/mo plan that offers a 250mb/mo 'data allowance' 10cents/mb overage charge, and their $59.99/mo plan with 5gb allowance, but with only a 5cents/mb overage charge. We're not sure if these new plans are MiFi-specific or if Verizon intends on changing their current 39.99 and 59.99/mo plans. Time will tell!
FYI, this Verizon unit is getting all the hype right now, but folks who prefer a Sprint MiFi should expect a similar unit to follow sometime after the Verizon unit actually ships.
