Why you may want to buy the Verizon iPad 4G over AT&T

With the recent news of separate versions of the iPad available for Verizon and AT&T some may ask which model to buy. The first though may be to check 3G/4G coverage in your area, but there's another factor that may weigh into your decision. If you find yourself in a 3G area with both Verizon and AT&T it may make more sense to go with the Verizon model instead of AT&T. Why would you want to go with the Verizon's slower 3G when AT&T offers upgraded HSPA+ branded as 4G?

The answer is simple, the Verizon model also supports global HSPA+ support, which AT&T offers on their network. In theory if the new iPad ships "unlocked" you could take your Verizon iPad over to AT&T and get a sim if they offer faster HSPA+ service in your area. Then when Verizon gets 4G LTE coverage in your area you'll be able to go back over to Verizon and use their 4G LTE network! Apple did announce that the device would be carrier locked to either Verizon or AT&T on 4G LTE, but didn't mention anything regarding 3G.
