Softbank talks to Sprint to buy $12.8 billion stake in Sprint Nextel

Recent rumors indicated that Sprint was trying to grab MetroPCS as news hit of a T-Mobile/MetroPCS merger. Now, it looks like that Sprint may be targeted for an acquisition by Softbank which is a 3G carrier based out of Japan. The buyout talks suggest a price of $12 billion to purchase a majority stake in Sprint. Recently Softbank acquired eAccess in a billion dollar deal and also bought out Vodafone’s Japanese arm back in 2006 so they aren’t a stranger when it comes to taking over a company. It remains to be seen on how this will affect Sprint’s Network Vision plan and 4G LTE rollout across the U.S.
