Five Band Cellular Amplifier

Cellphone-Mate has announced a Five Band Wireless Amplifier for 3G and 4G Networks.

Cellphone-Mate has announced the release of a product that has been long-anticipated by users wanting to boost the signal to multiple networks at the same time. The SureCall® Force-5 CM5000 Wireless Amplifier supports virtually every 2G, 3G, and 4G frequency (except Nextel/iDen and Sprint/CLEAR 4G WiMAX), and it's an 80db gain system, meaning it can cover extremely large buildings, up to 80,000 square feet! The amplifier supports 700/800/1900/2100mhz networks, which are used by most 2G, 3G, and 4G networks in the USA (including Sprint 2G/3G, Verizon 2G/3G/4G, AT&T 2G/3G/4G, T-Mobile 3G/4G, Alltel 2G/3G, Datajack, Virgin Mobile, and more). This is the first and ONLY amplifier currently available that supports ALL of those frequencies.

Cradlepoint MBR1200B In Stock at 3Gstore!

cradlepoint mbr1200b in stock at 3Gstore

Cradlepoint's latest router, the MBR1200B, is now available at 3Gstore at an introductory price of $224.99 (MSRP is $249.99)!

The MBR1200B replaces the popular MBR1200, which was discontinued earlier this year. It operates on the new NetBSD platform and will be a great fit for users who need more features than the MBR95 offers but don't need the more advanced functionality that the pricier MBR1400 provides. The MBR1200B looks nearly identical to the MBR1200, but there are quite a few differences, including:
  • Improved VPN, remote management and troubleshooting (versus MBR1200)
  • Data usage management and alerts
  • Improved internal Wi-Fi (versus MBR1200) - however, the 1200B does NOT feature ports to add external WiFi antennas like the 1200 did.
  • Wi-Fi Dual SSIDs
  • WiFi-as-WAN
  • Completely redesigned interface for usability with status widgets and summary console
  • 2 USB ports, 1 ExpressCard slot
  • 5 10/100 ethernet ports (configurable for up to 2 WAN or up to 5 LAN)
  • View all the compatible modems for the MBR1200B
Check back later this week for a review and more photos of the new MBR1200B!

The antenna made the difference in being able to receive Verizon 4gLite vs. just 3g. I am using the very short coax on the antenna and it is placed along with the modem and Cradlepoint MBR95 router near a window for good reception. I suggest a searching the site with just the modem and a laptop prior to the installation to enable the bast location.

Visa FANF Fee

Starting April 1, 2012, Visa® implemented a new Fixed Acquirer Fee (FANF), a monthly per location  and/or volume based fee charged to each merchant.

What does FANF mean to the average business?  They have to pay an additional fee paid for each transaction.  Depending on the volume, it could be thousands of dollars in extra fees paid to Visa .

What does FANF mean for the consumer?  Higher prices :(

There is something that you can do.  Setup a Paypal account and only purchase from online merchants that accept Paypal.  Most do.  In fact, I was in Home Depot today and they even accepted Paypal at the self checkout.  Using payal is also a lot more secure for consumers, because you never give the credit card number to the online merchant - so it is a lot safer for you when shopping online.

Clearwire's LTE Rollout Coming to NYC, SF, Seattle and Chicago

Clearwire's LTE Rollout Coming to NYC, SF, Seattle and Chicago, early 2013

CLEAR and Sprint have announced that they are throwing in the towel on their 4G WiMAX network (still will work in limited areas that have it - BUT there will be NO NEW WiMAX cities ever), but instead are going to convert their spectrum over from WiMAX to LTE.  Actually, it is called TDD-LTE, which is a new standard of LTE that can run on the WiMAX frequency of 2600MHZ.

The initial rollout schedule will include New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles , Seattle and Chicago.

Google, Please Fix Email Issue

If you get HTML formatted emails, did you start having issues with your web browser or iPhone was delivering the email in plain text, so that you saw all the HTML codes vs. having the email look pretty like it used to?  Something changed at Google and it is impacting many users worldwide, are you one of them?  The email is still (kind of) readable, but it is real annoying.

Best Buy Connect Shutting Down 6/1/2012

Best Buy Connect is no longer accepting new customers and will be shutting down effective June 1, 2012.  Best Buy has been closing stores, slashing employees, cutting costs and even losing a CEO lately.

Best Buy Connect had offered WiMAX (4G) service using CLEAR.  CLEAR announced recently that they were switching their network from WiMAX to LTE, so the 60 cities that are currently covered by WiMAX will never expand.

For those that had already purchased a device and service, it will stop working on June 1st.  Best Buy will be offering all customers a gift card via mail to help them transition to a new service.

Auto restart frozen or crashed routers

Are you tired of your cable modem or router freezing up on you? When you call the Cable/DSL company for help what is the first thing they have you do? If you answered reboot the modem or router you're spot on. The fact is when you've got equipment that doesn't seem to be responding, simply rebooting the hardware can often resolve the issue. This is where the Remote Power Switch comes into play by taking you out of the equation anytime you have equipment acting up.

The video above demonstrates how easy the Remote Power Switch is to connect to your existing equipment. The Remote Power Switch comes pre-configured out of the box for plug and play use, just plug in Ethernet to the Remote Switch and plug into a power source. The unit also has manual configuration options allowing you to easily control WAN activity out to the Internet (routers, DSL/Cable modems, IP Cameras), as well as LAN connectivity making the Remote Power Switch ideal for Kiosk, M2M, Digital Signage prone to an occasional lock up.

If your not happy with the default reset cycle you can also manually adjust the delay timing from a few seconds to several minutes. You also can control scheduled reboot sequences for industrial applications where equipment needs to be turned on or off at specific times. Scheduling power cycles can save your company money by preventing unnecessary service calls by technicians to reboot or manage equipment out in the field. In fact, you can use a free MSN account to quickly check device status, control the outlets and find the IP address of connected equipment. The Remote Power Switch is the ultimate tool to help save your company money and manage remote equipment!

I bought this MBR95 mainly for the MiFi _ WAN capability. It was easy to set up and is rock solid so far. I was pleasantly surprised at the broad range of set up features and especially like the ability to reserve IPs from the DHCP server. Now there is no need for fixed IPs where needed before.

Verizon Wireless to conduct Spectrum License Sale

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Wireless today announced plans to conduct an open sale process for all of its 700 MHz A and B spectrum licenses in order to rationalize its spectrum holdings. The licenses cover dozens of major cities across the country, as well as a number of smaller and rural markets.

Verizon Wireless obtained the 700 MHz A and B licenses, as well as nationwide 700 MHz upper C licenses (with the exception of Alaska which has since been acquired), in FCC Auction 73 in 2008. Verizon Wireless is deploying its 4G LTE network, which currently covers more than 200 million people, on its nationwide 700 MHz upper C spectrum. If Verizon Wireless is successful in acquiring additional AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum licenses, it will use AWS spectrum in conjunction with its 700 MHz upper C band spectrum to deploy additional LTE capacity.

Accordingly, the sale of the A and B licenses is contingent on the close of Verizon Wireless' pending purchases of AWS licenses from SpectrumCo (an entity jointly owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks), Cox and Leap Wireless. These transactions are at varying stages of review by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) and are expected to close by mid-summer.

Is WiMAX Dead?

WiMAX had a 2 year head start over LTE, but it is looking like WiMAX is the Rick Santorum of the 4G world.  WiMAX had the initial lead.  Sprint and Clear could have been in the lead.  Today, LTE is the 4G technology that is winning.  In fact, Clear and Sprint have already announced that they are dropping WiMAX and moving towards LTE technology.  So, you may see some cool new services (NetZero) and others, but they are based 4G technology that is at a dead end, so don't get stuck in the WiMAX corner!

Very impressed with signal booster. In a recognised black spot with no service I placed the I phone in the booster and instantly got 3 bars, I then raised the antenna as high as cable would allow and then got 4bars. Phone calls: loud and clear. A great product.

Verizon 4G Carrier Challenge

Verizon Wireless has challenged the largest carriers to a 4G shootout with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. The video above goes across the country in an attempt to compare smartphone data speeds on different carriers. Verizon spokesman Brenda Raney told FierceWireless "The purpose was to differentiate Verizon Wireless 4G LTE and to show real customers discovering that there was a difference in 4G LTE from Verizon Wireless and others who make claims to 4G."

Earlier this year we wrote a comparison between 4G and 4G LTE to talk about the differences, but this video is an excellent example of why 4G LTE is the technology you want in your device. Verizon Wireless has over 200 4G LTE markets and plans to complete their roll-out by the end of 2013. On their 4G LTE network you should expect to see around 5-12Mbps download and 2-5Mbps upload with some users seeing considerably more!

AT&T Lighting up three LTE Markets on April 8th

AT&T had a late start being one of the last carriers to make 4G LTE available to customers. They've currently got coverage in 28 markets and will be launching three more on April 8th. The latest markets to launch will be Bloomington, In; Bryan-College Station, Tx and Muncie, In. This still puts them quite a ways behind Verizon, which has over 200 markets launched now, but is a step in the right direction for AT&T.
