Verizon to use Cable spectrum to boost 4G LTE network by late 2013

According to BGR Verizon will be using the AWS spectrum acquired from a variety of cable companies over the second half of 2013. In an interview with Fierce Wireless, company CTO Nicola Palmer said they plan to complete their LTE rollout on 700Mhz by the middle of the year, and plan to cover over 5,000 new sites with LTE in 2013. For customers that already have an LTE enabled device you won’t be able to take advantage of the spectrum provisioned under the cable frequency, but Verizon plans to offer AWS compatible devices before July. Nicola also mentioned that their plans to launch VoLTE by the end of the year are moving forward and “could” be available by the end of this year, or by the first part of next year.
