AT&T plans for VoLTE later this year

Over the last six months carriers have been talking more about VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution) and AT&T says customers should see it sometime before the end of 2013. There isn’t a set date but the first tests will be limited to select markets rather than doing a mass test launch across the country. Bill Smith president of network operations at AT&T says "We're going to be prepared to do some initial markets by the end of the year,” and if LTE isn’t available voice service will fallback to their UMTS network. Reports haven’t been published yet if they’ve managed to find a way around the battery drain where VoLTE cut battery life by 50% in earlier tests late last year.
