AT&T closes in on 400 LTE markets

Today AT&T announced that they’ve launched 4G LTE coverage to another 14 markets that include Abilene, Texas and Greenville, North Carolina. This brings them close to 400 markets across the country and will help them reach their end of year goal of 420 markets. Over the last 6 months AT&T has been rolling out LTE aggressively slowly catching up to Verizon’s 500+ LTE markets. Customers in LTE areas can expect to see 5-12Mbps download and 2-5Mbps upload on average and many report even faster speeds. After companies have most of their markets covered with LTE they can then start working on VoLTE (Voice over Long Term Evolution) to allow voice traffic in addition to data over LTE.
