New Long Range Invisible Ethernet Bridge from 3Gstore

long range invisible ethernet bridge
New from 3Gstore, the Long Range Invisible Ethernet Bridge Kit is an easy way to wirelessly extend a network with zero advanced configuration. The Bridge Kit is a point-to-point WiFi antenna system designed to operate at ranges outside the reach of a traditional WiFi signal - over a mile in optimal conditions. It consists of two antennas: one installed at the primary location connected to the LAN of the existing network, and a second at the secondary location to pick up the signal and feed it into a network switch, router, computer, camera, etc (whatever you need to provide internet to!). The kit comes pre-configured, so no difficult setup or networking knowledge is required. Just mount the two antennas using the included hardware, aim them at each other. The Bridge Kit will create an “invisible” link between the two antennas and will function as if there was an ethernet cable between them.

Taoglas 8" Indoor/Portable Full-Band 3G/4G Antenna Now Available

3Gstore is thrilled to announce the Taoglas 8” Indoor/Portable Full-Band 3G/4G Antenna, the newest addition to our lineup of 3G and 4G cellular antennas. Perfect for travelers, business trips, or for those who need an antenna but don’t have the option to permanently mount one, this sturdy and versatile antenna can be adapted to a number of situations.

This new antenna replaces a previous long-standing 3Gstore customer favorite, the 6” Booster Antenna, which went “end of life” earlier this year. The Taoglas 8” Indoor/Portable Full-Band 3G/4G Antenna does everything the Booster Antenna did, but has several additional advantages, including a longer cable (8’ vs 3’), slightly higher gain, a sturdier design, and a hinged connector for both horizontal and vertical mounting options.

Check out our video review of the 8” Indoor/Portable Full-Band Antenna:

Blue Sunday

Blue Sunday?  C'mon this is getting ridiculous.  When did retailers start naming sales like we do hurricanes and are consumers that ignorant?   Just call it, "We have a few awesome deals, we want you to come to our store and not Amazon or Walmart so we can be in business in 3 year sale"

Every week we randomly pick one product review from the previous week and award the writer a $25.00 gift code. We have been using the device and amplifier for a little over two weeks now and it has been really stable. No downtime! Previously, we used a MiFi and cellular bridge combo that suffered frequent disconnects and equipment failures. If the 650 continues to function this well, we will be very happy customers. Setup is simple and the folks at 3gstore helped me through it seamlessly. Thanks!!

T-Mobile USA is looking to buy 700 MHz Spectrum from Verizon

T-Mobile US is looking to buy spectrum from its rival, Verizon.

T-Mobile itself has said, the company is looking in to as many avenues as possible to boost its own coverage, with the main challenge being not owning enough spectrum to offer as much coverage as it would like.  The 700 MHz lower block spectrum left from Verizon to buy is in urban areas.

The benefit eventually would be less holes and possibly better in building penetration inside of large cities and some of the suburbs that surround them which right now are areas that could use improvement.

Peplink FusionHub

Peplink we be launching a new software service called FusionHub available to run on VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 (Release estimate February 2014). Until now the only way to establish SpeedFusion connectivity with multiple sites was to install Peplink Balance routers or pay for hosted service. FusionHub gives users more flexibility because they can manage the computing power to accommodate a specific number of users and is fully upgradable. This allows you to quickly turn a computer into a VPN server capable of routing and bonding multiple SpeedFusion tunnels. Here are some of the highlight features FusionHub can offer you:

Streaming to your server Cloud: This gives you the ability to upload larger amounts of data directly to your server cloud with speed and reliability. There are lots of applications where this can be very useful including CCTV deployments and VoIP applications where bandwidth and redundancy are crucial. Without FusionHub service any WAN failure would result in a session timeout causing you to restart your upload back to the cloud server.

Multi-Tenant Architectures: FusionHub allows you to easily build multi-tenant architecture by creating multiple virtual machines to your cloud server. Assuming you have enough computing power the possibilities are endless for managed service providers to set up redundant servers for each client. This would give you multiple secure 256bit AES encrypted tunnels and independent servers for each client that you’re managing.

Faster Internet Speeds: If you have branch or Satellite offices where fiber or ultra fast connections aren’t available FusionHub allows you to bond slower Cable/DSL connections together. All you need to do is install the FusionHub virtual machine at a site location with fiber or high speed cable access and you can provide other sites with a secure link to bond multiple connections together. Your only limit in this configuration would be the bandwidth available at the server location where you’ve got the virtual FusionHub software installed. For customers that don’t have access to any sites with fiber Amazon hosted cloud services will be coming soon.
Standardize Policies across all networks: FusionHub allows you to create a standard IP address and security policies of outbound traffic for each office location. This means you no longer need to individually configure each location, the FusionHub will give you secure VPN access and any policy rules set will apply to all branch or satellite offices. This is ideal for any company that has multiple office locations and needs a way to quickly deploy hardware and manage their VPN from one central virtual server location.

Sierra Wireless Files with European Commission and U.S. Federal Trade Commission against Nokia

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR) (TSX:SW) today announced it has submitted a complaint with the European Commission (EC) against Nokia for anti-competitive behavior and a request for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to start a formal investigation.

The EC complaint says Nokia is discriminating against Sierra Wireless and abusing its dominant position as a GSM and 3G standard essential patent (SEP) holder. Sierra Wireless alleges that Nokia applies widely different, and therefore unfair, royalty rates for the same SEPs to make identical GSM wireless modules; that Nokia is imposing unfavorable and unreasonable royalty terms that put Sierra Wireless at a competitive disadvantage; and that Nokia has refused to license 3G SEPs for wireless modules in spite of its clear obligation and repeated requests from Sierra Wireless to do so.

Sierra Wireless believes that Nokia is in breach of Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and Nokia’s obligation to grant SEP licenses on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms (FRAND) as required by the European Technology Standards Institute (ETSI).

Sierra Wireless has been seeking a mutually acceptable resolution of the royalty rate issues and a license to use Nokia’s 3G SEPs. With no clear response from Nokia, Sierra Wireless believes the best way to resolve this matter and clarify royalty discrepancies is to file a complaint with the EC. In addition, Sierra Wireless has notified the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the complaint and requested the FTC open an investigation into Nokia’s breach of FRAND rules and U.S. laws on fair trade and monopoly practices. The company has also requested the ETSI to investigate Nokia’s behaviour in breaching its commitment to the FRAND rule with another ETSI member.

Pierre Cosnier, Senior Director, Legal Affairs for Sierra Wireless said: “We are acting to protect our customers and ourselves from the unreasonable actions of some standard essential patent holders, which result in unresolved patent license disagreements that we want to remedy on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms.”
Sierra Wireless is urging the EC to investigate and require Nokia to reveal the pricing for 2G and 3G SEP licenses with other licensees, end the breaches outlined in the complaint, sanction Nokia, and require these patent licenses to be granted on FRAND terms.

Peplink/Pepwave Link Controller for Retail/POS

Link controllers are designed to make managing multiple WAN connections a simple task. This typically involves both inbound and outbound rules that allow you to dictate how each ISP’s connection is used on your network. If you’ve thought about adding another ISP for redundancy or already have multiple ISP’s, Peplink and Pepwave offer several routers that can give you complete control over your network. Multiple WAN connections can be used to either load balance, aggregate or failover to make sure you have no interruptions throughout the day.

Retail/POS:

In retail environments like restaurants, gas stations, malls and others that use POS systems it’s crucial to have a redundant ISP. To provide redundancy you can add another Cable/DSL provider, or 3G/4G connectivity where traditional ISP’s are limited. Without a backup source of Internet your business could grind a hault. According to Forbes 66 percent of POS transactions are now done with credit, debit or gift cards; all of which require Internet access in order to process. This means if your ISP goes down without a backup in place you’ve just lost the majority of your sales as they go somewhere else that can accept their plastic.

(Slower transaction times equal longer lines)
If you take your average sales per hour, amount and subtracted 66 percent of sales you can see how much this could cost you. This number only grows the longer your ISP stays down and getting the correct equipment can ensure your business continues to operate as normal and not slow you down. Older POS systems may have a dial-up backup that can help, but dialing in for transactions and latency can make a typical 3 second transaction last a minute or longer. This ultimately leads to longer lines and increases the chance of a customer walking out because they don’t want to wait a long time in a line.

Remotely Rebooting Modem Automatically

Just got this review from Tony in Mount Vernon, IA:

I used this product at a remote business location with a cable modem that was having issues. I had to call someone on site to reset the modem about once a week. By using the IP switch whenever there were network issues the modem rebooted and everything came back up without needing anyone to manually reset the modem.

Tony, thanks for the review and glad that it is working as advertised .

Cradlepoint Firmware 5.0 now available

Today Cradlepoint released firmware version 5.0.0 for the MBR95, CBA750B, MBR1200B, MBR1400/MBR1400 HW v2.0 and IBR600/650 series. Prior to completing the upgrade Cradlepoint recommends saving your previous configuration file to a local computer so you don’t lose any settings you’ve changed. Any router currently running firmware version 3.2 or lower will lose any changes you’ve made and will not keep the settings.
In addition revision 5.0.0 is a significant change and factory resetting 5.0.0 then re-applying a saved configuration may not correctly reset all saved passwords. If you end up downgrading from 5.0.0 it will force a complete factory reset on the router and saving a configuration on 5.0.0 will not be backwards compatible to previous builds. This means you can save configurations moving towards firmware 5.0.0 but if you decide to go back to a previous build don’t discard a saved configuration from builds prior to 5.0.0. Outlined below are some of the new features within 5.0.0 including new modem support:
New Modem Support:
  • MC200LP2-EU / EE, Vodafone (UK), Tele2 (Sweden) / Supported on MBR1400/CBA750B Only
  •  Netgear AC341U (Sprint)
  • Pantech UML295VW (Verizon), requires Pantech firmware L0295VWD821F.B4 or later
New features added in this release (MBR1400, IBR6x0, MBR1200B, CBA750B only):
  • VPN Improvements – Internet / OpenVPN. OpenVPN has been added to provide SSL VPN support.
  • L2TP support for a WAN interface is provided under Internet / L2TP Tunnels.
  • GRE: Failover/Failback and WAN Binding support has been added.
  • VPN Failback. This feature allows two or more VPN tunnels to be created that will failover if one connection goes down and will fail back if the higher priority connection is available. It is configured in the VPN Tunnels wizard / Dead Peer Detection page.
  • Filter packets going through the modem that do not match the network. This feature is enabled by default and can be disabled using Internet / Connection Mannager / Common Defaults / Modem Settings.
  • Internet / CP Connect (Beta feature in 5.0). CP Connect tunnels can be used to create a connection to a private network.
  • Internet / WiFi as WAN. (MBR1400v2 only). WPA2 Enterprise Authentication added to Wi-Fi as WAN option.
  • Zscaler cloud-based filtering/security added under Network Settings / Content Filter / Cloud Based Filtering/Security.
  • SMS access. Now enabled for all products on this platform.

FCC Releases Speed Test App for Android Devices

The Federal Communications Commission made available a smartphone application that is meant to test wireless network speeds. According to the FCC, the app runs periodically in the background when the phone is not in use and tests both cellular and Wi-Fi download speeds, upload speeds, latency, and packet loss.

Users can see how their broadband service performs and track it over time. Testing is limited to 100MB per month, and it grabs data such as cell ID, signal strength, and GPS locations.

The FCC says testing is entirely anonymous and none of the data generated can be tracked back to individuals. ;)
