I am having a bit of a problem with mine, although I have sold two separate units to my neighbors and turned on my audio/video experts to the device as well. They thought it was great! I think my problems the my radlepoint is located next tp a massive chimney butt, obstructing the airwaves to the outside .Its crazy, because my downs are significantly less than my ups. I have the portable mifi to compare it to, which is lightning fast. I was thinking of getting some sort of an outside device to deliver enhanced signal to the central location. The MBR95 doesn't allow for an antenna. What can be done?

Cradlepoint WiFi as WAN IP Configuration Tutorial 8:

In this tutorial 3Gstore.com shows you how to setup the routers gateway if you plan to configure two or more Cradlepoint routers in a WiFi as WAN configuration. If you don't change this IP address the routers will create a conflict and never connect to each other.

WiFi as WAN allows your NetBSD Cradlepoint router to connect to any available WiFi network. This can be open networks, password protect (assuming you know the password), mobile hotspots and smartphones. In addition this feature can be used to extend the range of an existing Cradlepoint router!

The problem is the default gateway on all Cradlepoint routers is 192.168.0.1 which means you'll get an IP conflict if you try to connect without following this tutorial.

Sprint 4G FD-LTE Centered around Texas

Sprint plans to make Texas the highlight state for their new 4G FD-LTE network set to go live in the mid part of 2012. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said they plan to launch four major markets by mid-year and three of them will be in Texas. To be exact the markets will be Dallas, Houston and San Antonio with the fourth market to go live in Atlanta, GA.

The first 4G FD-LTE devices available will be the Galaxy Nexus LTE by Samsung, Viper smartphones by LG Electronics and a "tri-network" (3G/WiMAX/LTE) hotspot made by Sierra Wireless. Sprint hope to complete the majority of their 4G FD-LTE roll out by the end of 2013 and then plans to start on LTE-Advanced.

Static IP on Verizon 4G LTE - Now Available

Prior to this month, Verizon only offered static IP addresses on 3G-only devices - they didn't have any available for 4G devices. For 98% of the people who use mobile broadband service, this was a non-issue as any IP address will do in most cases. For people who need to configure certain devices over their 3G or 4G connection, though, a static IP address can be a necessity.

A static (non-changing) IP address is usually required when connecting a specific device over 3G or 4G, such as a remote security camera. That camera needs to have the same IP address all the time so that the remote administrators are able to access it over the internet. If the IP address were to change, nobody would be able to find that camera to access it again. Until now, Verizon users who required a static IP address had to use a 3G-only device and weren't able to take advantage of 4G speeds - now, 4G is an option even for those who need a static IP!

Verizon offers a Static IP addresses for a one-time fee of $500. To add a static IP address to your Verizon account, simply call Verizon customer service at (800) 922-0204.

Clearing your browser cache for Cradlepoint Routers

The Problem: Cradlepoint's new NetBSD routers will cache an image of the existing image of the admin interface in a web browser. This is persistent and after preforming a firmware upgrade any new settings won't be viewable (if features are added or moved). This is because the web browser has cached an image of the previous firmware and the placement may be different on a newer revision.

The Solution: In order to ensure your not viewing a cached image you must clear your cache after upgrading firmware or changing different router models (IE - going from MBR95 to MBR1400 for instance).

Follow-up to my earlier comments... the firmware upgrade did indeed stop it from crashing every day, so that's very good news. But it's still maddening in the sense that its own SSID is always creating confusion with the host network... if I change that, it no longer works; if I don't, I end up connecting to it half the time instead of the AP itself. Way too much fiddling around to get this stable, though to be fair, it works well and has dramatically greater range than unaided laptops. Still, I'm on the cusp of DD-WRT with an old Linksys,

This year IPv6 will officially launch on June 6, 2012 and will be permanently available to provide the next generation Internet. At this time IPv4 is quickly running out of IPv4 addresses and this widespread deployment of IPv6 will allow everyone to connect billions of mobile and fixed devices.

The enclosed DVD needs to be updated to reflect the new switch. I'm finding that the embedded web server "goes to sleep" with some frequency, completely defeating the purpose of a remote IP switch. I've just tried activating the setup option to restart the embedded services every 12 hours, we'll see how that works. If it doesn't, it would make the switch pretty much useless (the fact that there is a setup option to restart the embedded services makes me wonder how stable the web server is). Time will tell...

iPhone Battery To Last Weeks on Single Charge

Having an IPhone that hardly ever needs to be recharged is seen by many as the thing that will make the aliens realize that we are worth of their time. I personally would be thrilled, it would save me a lot of hassle, but at the same time it would be much like re-breaking a bone. I am so used to getting in the car and plugging in my phone, going to bed at night, plugging in my phone. Being somewhere where I desperately need my phone to work and it dies like a Shakespearean actor in summer stock.

The idea of a longer battery has been touted as the next big step in phone technology for a long time, so I don’t know if it would necessarily be a game changer. But I would say that any phone that has it, as opposed to another that would not is the one that would sell out of the store first. It seems very similar to black and white vs. color TV, you still get a TV either way but if given the option your going to go for the one that let’s you see The Flintstones in all their technicolor glory.

Don’t get me wrong, if it can be done, and done well, it will definitely cause rumbles around the world. De-cabling my house and car will be a relief to me and the cigarette lighter thingy in my car that I am constantly jamming my charger into because it never seems to fit quite right.
So it would be totally kick ass, but at the same time, I would fear it. It promises a lot, and if it can deliver than it will change the way people use their phones. No longer will they shudder when they take their phone off the charger to live their lives. But if much like the electric car, is it a tech that promises that future but doesn’t quite deliver? But if it does work as well as promised and beyond, I know I’ll be the first one in line to get it. Right behind Zork for Alpha Centauri.

The Tri-Band Yagi (304411) is a super-effective high-gain antenna that works for just about every cellular frequency, including Sprint 4G WiMAX and Verizon 4G LTE. It isn't appropriate for everyone - it requires direct line of sight to the cell tower with no obstructions - but it works like a charm for users who fit those criteria:

Verizon tech informed me that I was too distant from the tower to receive a stable, strong signal. I have a clear unobstructed line of sight to the tower. The 3G store tech informed me I needed a Yagi Antenna, her advice was spot on. My signal is now strong and reliable and I am stoked.

I bought this antenna to improve my data service by enhancing a weak Verizon cell signal. Customer service advised expertly on the antenna cable requirements. The system works well out of the box, is simple to install and took me from 2 bars to a strong 4 on my MiFi.

Without an antenna, my AT&T Shockwave USB provided download speed of less than 1Mbps. I installed the Yagi antenna and a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router and now get between 3.5 and 4.2Mbps consistently. Way better than the 1.56 i got from Wild Blue satellite! Beyond my expectations.

This unit is a really slick idea. When you take it out of the box, quality is written all over it. The remote access works like a charm. I needed constant access to my home PC when at work or out of town. Using Teamviewer I needed to leave my PC on 24/7 to do this. Not any more! Just went into the PC's BIOS under Power Management and set the PC to always boot up on power failure. Plugged the PC into one of the outlets and remotely toggle it off, then on. Voila, my PC boots up. I use the other outlet to reboot my modems and routers every day at 2 a.m. Great product. I'm saving $15 per month with this. Pays for itself pretty quickly.

I really needed this item for my remote maintenance that I frequently perform on my computers. This item is exactly what I was looking for. I can now remotely reboot my unit without having to worry if the hang or not. If for one reason or another a unit hangs on a reboot then I can remotely power cycle the unit and gain access without having to drive out to the location to do a power cycle.

This little device has already saved many miles of travel and time to reach the remote. Not fancy or expensive,and it performs as advertised. Well done 3G

With all the different video settings on CloudCams it's near impossible to account for all the different combinations. If you plan to use a 3G/4G connection to run the CloudCam we recommend combining that with either a Peplink or NetBSD Cradlepoint router to monitor your monthly bandwidth usage.

This works as advertised. I put the cell phone close to the Xlink and plug a 6.0 DECT conventional "land line" phone into it. The "land line" phone has a remote hand set placed in another room. I speak on it with no loss of quality.

CradlePoint MBR1400 WiFi Bridge Mode

3Gstore.com moved last week into a larger warehouse (double the space) and we have been setting things up. We ran into a problem. A specific location was pretty far away from our main network, BUT needed internet access. We love eating our own dog food, so we looked for the perfect solution. We could have used any router that supports WiFi as WAN to grab the 3Gstore wireless network, but that wouldn't work for us, because we have a printer in the remote location and we need everyone to be able to access it. Luckily, CradlePoint recently came out with a new firmware upgrade that added support for a new feature called "WiFi Bridge Mode" for the MBR1400. This allows the CradlePoint router to access the other network via WiFI BUT all devices are on the same network - this allows us to printer to any printer from anywhere.

We are putting together a tip sheet on exactly how to make this work and we will make that available to anyone that purchases a MBR1400 from us.

WiFi to Ethernet

Many people with Ethernet only devices (gaming systems, DVRs, PBXs, printers, webcams) have an issue when needing to hookup these devices to their existing WiFi networks. Rather than running a 20 or 100 foot Ethernet cable to these Ethernet only devices, we recommend trying one of the Pepwave Surf products. It looks likes Nexaira Wireless, developers of 3G/4G Wireless routers has gone out of business. Their phones stopped working last month and now their web site has been shutdown. Nexaira made the Business Class II (BC2) 3G/4G router, along with the SOHO and HANA routers.

This is a great router. Setup was easy. If you are using a 4G LTE modem with the router use an usb extension cable the performance is much better.

There is a common misconception that 'gaming' uses a ton of bandwidth and users like 3G/4G wireless customers can't game because of bandwidth constraints. If you watch the video above using Pepwave's bandwidth monitoring features you'll find that some games don't use much data at all!

In our tests with MW3 we found the game used approximately 30MB per hour, which translates into the following for tiered wireless customers:

10GB account = 340 hours @ 30MB/hr

Verizon 4G Launches LTE in 11 New Markets

Verizon Wireless announced today they've launched eleven more LTE markets bringing their total to close to 200 active 4G Markets. The latest launch includes the following markets: Dover, Del.; Lafayette, Ind.; Fitchburg/Leominster, Mass.; Duluth, The Rochester Area and St. Cloud, Minn.; Manchester/Nashua, N.H.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Findlay/Tiffin and Youngstown/Warren, Ohio; and Indiana, Pa. Also announced was the Galaxy Nexus, which will be available for $300 if you sign a new two year contract. Customers on Verizon's 4G LTE network typically see speeds of 5-12Mbps down and 2-5Mbps up making it one of the fastest wireless services available.

Waterproof your iPhone

Have you heard of Liquipel? They claim that they can waterproof your iPhone (iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS and a few Android Phones) so that the device can be submerged in water without a case and still work (without even triggering the water sensor). Pretty amazing. We are going to be putting them to the test and getting one of our iPhones treated with Liquipel and we will report back on how well it works.

Ihave owned Apple products since the Apple ][ and have owned just about every Apple product since then. Everyone in my family owns an iPhone 4 and Mac. I have been an Apple stock holder since the stock was $22. I love Apple.

Iupgraded to the iPhone 4S from iPhone 4 the day I was able to place a pre-order and I got the 64GB/Black/AT&T iPhone 4S on launch day.

Ihave never been so disappointed in an Apple product, the battery life is horrible on this device (ie BatteryGate). I am on my 2nd 4S, I have tried everything suggested multiple times and made my smartphone into a dumb phone by disabling everything. Still getting horrible battery life. Still wasting a ton of time trying all the fixes that don't work. Yesterday, Iwas trending around 25% - 30% an hour. I am going on a business trip 2nd week in January and a vacation in March and very concerned I have tobring something that I can use all day. It really saddens me that Apple hasn't fixed this or communicated with its customers.

My NDA prevents me from talking about unreleased stuff - but lets say that fixes coming - don't seem to fix either.

Ihave wasted so much time on trying to get this to work, I am close to throwing in the towel - is there any hope for my iPhone 4S??

There have been many reports of horrible battery life with iOS 5 devices and especially with iPhone 4S devices. A few days ago, Apple released iOS 5.1 beta to developers and chatter on the Apple discussion forums indicate that the battery problem (aka BatteryGate) may be resolved once iOS 5.1 is released to the public. This battery problem has been strange as it doesn't affect every iPhone user, some have no problems at all. Since developers are under non-disclosure, don't look for many comments, but the good news, is that it does appear to solve the issue.

Wouldn't it be great if there was an IP Camera for your iPhone? What? Being away from your home or business but being able to watch and listen directly from your iPhone. The possibilities are endless and it allows you to be in two places at one time (sort of). Most IP Cameras that work with your iPhone require a lot of networking knowledge and technical know how in order to get the IP Camera working when you are not at your home or business. Notes -This is a life saver I use the Dragon Dictation say what I need to do for the day and then use this to remember. It’s great.

Pageonce -You put in your credit cards, bank accounts and any other financials that you want to keep an eye on and then it sends me e-mail if any thing’s almost due and gives different credit card options.

Sprint Updates Price Plans for Mobile Broadband, No More Unlimited 4G

Effective today (11/13/11), Sprint has updated their service plan options for mobile broadband devices (USB modems, ExpressCards, and PCMCIA cards), hotspots (like the MiFi and Overdrive), and tablet/netbook devices. Until now, Sprint had offered unlimited 4G service on 4G-capable devices, with a monthly allowance (5GB or 10GB for most devices; tablets/netbooks had other options) for 3G service.

As of today, Sprint is no longer offering unlimited 4G service. Instead, users will have two or more plan options that include a monthly allowance for 3G and 4G data, with overage charges incurred if that allowance is exceeded. This is bad news for folks in 4G areas who use a lot of data, obviously, but the silver lining is that the new plans have more competitive pricing.

USB, ExpressCard, and PCMCIA card users will now have two plans to choose from:

6GB of 3G/4G for $49.99/mo
12GB of 3G/4G for $79.99/mo

Hotspot (i.e. MiFi and Overdrive) users will now have three plans to choose from:

3GB of 3G/4G for $34.99/mo
6GB of 3G/4G for $49.99/mo
12GB of 3G/4G for $79.99/mo

Tablet/Netbook users will now have four plans to choose from:

1GB of 3G/4G for $19.99/mo
3GB of 3G/4G for $34.99/mo
6GB of 3G/4G for $49.99/mo
12GB of 3G/4G for $79.99/mo

Overages for ALL of the above plans will be billed at $0.05/mb.

One major question that EXISTING Sprint users who signed up before 11/13 are sure to have is, "will my plan change or will I still have unlimited 4G service?" Unfortunately, according to Sprint, they will NOT be "grandfathering" in existing customers - existing customers will receive a notification from Sprint and forced to choose one of the new plans.

This time around, I was getting errors for 45 minutes and Apple.com couldn't complete my order. Looking online, tons of other people were having problems too:

iMessage Poses Huge Threat To Carriers

Apple today officially released iOS5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and this update contains new functionality for text messaging called iMessage.

Previously, when you would send a text message, you would go through the carrrier (AT&T, Sprint or Verizon) and they would charge you for each message, unless you paid for unlimited text messaging. Once you enable iMessage, you are no longer going through the carrier to send a text, you are going through Apple - who doesn't charge you. This can be very disruptive as the carriers make a lot of money on consumers sending text messages.

Don't cancel your text plan just yet, in order to use iMessage, all the people that you text will need to upgrade to iOS5 and they will need to enable iMessage (as seen in the screenshot above). If you send texts to people NOT using iPhones, you will still need your carrier's text plan. It is very unlikely that Apple will be coming out with an iMessage for Android. Some of the cool features with iMessage is the ability to see when the person received the sent message and when they read it as well. If you disable iMessage, all your text messages will be sent like they were previously.

iCloud is a pretty cool idea. I am sure that Apple has some grand plans for it more then just document/data/music/photo syncing (think TV and Movie streaming on iCloud and being able to watch anything whenever you want to).

Where iCloud is most useful is on mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Imagine being able to take a picture and have it instantly on your computer in the office or home. One concern is how much will this always connected cloud take on your existing battery life. During beta testing of iOS5, it was noticed that the battery life was reduced when iCloud was enabled and used, which makes sense. But, will it be worth it?

It will be very interesting to hear from people that enable iCloud and how that impacts their battery life.

Apple TV Idea - Ask To Purchase When Done Renting

Not sure how many people rent and purchase movies on their Apple TV - but I do. Usually I rent movies from Apple. Some of the movies I will never watch again and I was glad that I only rented them. Some of the movies are really good and I wish I had purchased them. Here is an idea for Apple, at the end of a rental, give me the option of turning my rental into a purchase. There would be nothing new to download, just charge me the cost difference between the rental fee and the purchase fee. Seems like a great idea for both the consumer and Apple/movie studios.

RIM is saying the following, "We are investigating, and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused whilst this is resolved," RIM said, declining to provide further detail."
